Terrible. Shrimp precooked. Wings were huge. But they dont care apparently as the place is always packed.

Don't go -- we took a party of six there for dinner. The place was not particularly busy, but we waited over 30 minutes for our food to come out of the kitchen. The people at the next table who came in after us were done eating by the time our food came out. The beer was warm and was served in glasses that look like pints (and cost like pints) but were smaller. They charge for soft drink refills (if you see that warning on the menu you're doing better than we did) - and four kids waiting half an hour for their food can drink a lot of pop. Once it came out, the food was marginal. And they don't take charge cards - who does that(?)

Remember the bars of the 70s? Rustic, great food, happy people everywhere? It's still found here. Food is very tasty - service is fast. We can't believe that we walked into Charlie's on a Friday night in January, and the place was packed. 14 years ago on a Friday night, the shuffleboard table was out, about 2 dozen patrons, and it was a quiet night. Probably didn't hurt that it was Wes' 35th anniversary at the 40+ year old bar. Dear Hubby had the filet mignon cheesesteak (it's called the Wes' Favorite - sliced filet mignon, with provolone cheese on garlic toasted brioche bun). He said it melted as he bit into it. I had the daily hand-ground/hand-made burger with blue cheese and grilled onions. I didn't order the tasty fries, as DH had enough to share. FYI, the grilled onions are chopped, not rings - they're transluscent, not browned when served (but they're still good). The side of chips are a small serving bag of Herr's Chips (didn't even eat those -- too full). Place was packed - no shuffleboard out that night. Short (under 5 min) wait to get seated. Server was delightful - food came out in a flash, and was very tasty. If you're looking for an unpretentious place, great food & comfortable atmosphere, check it out. We saw most people dressed in casual to "business casual" attire. No sloppy here. We've only visited here in January - many times in the past decade. We'll certainly visit again.

3.5 stars This is a local favorite of mine. We like their wings, but some days they can be off. Sometimes huge, sometimes small, and a lot of the times way too greasy, but we gobble them up anyway. We absolutely LOVE their cheese fries. Crispy, loaded with cheese, and topped with old bay, MmMm! Burgers and cheesesteaks are pretty good, nice and beefy. I used to love their clams casino, but a couple years back they started to go downhill, and picked up sand on the way down. I dislike that every time, without fail, my soda is watered down. Every single time. Service is all right. It's a sports bar afterall. I'd come here just for the fries.

I'm sure somewhere, someone is serving better wings and chicken fingers than Charlie's, but I haven't found them. The food is exceptional, the service is friendly and fast, even when busy, and I love the neighborhood atmosphere. The top gun wing sauce isn't the hottest I've had, but it's the hottest that was actual tasty. The fingers are breaded in house and are greasy perfection, especially with the in house DELICIOUS sauces. The BBQ is absolutely fantastic, to the point where I'm going to buy a container next time I'm there. If that isn't enough, they're cheap and have specials for Phils games and many other events.

Such a wonderful experience. My husband and I went in around 6:30 with just our youngest who is about 7 months old. Immediately struck my the friendliness of the hostesses. They sat us in the little alcove by the door and as luck had it, got the nicest waitress in the world. We ordered clam chowders and beers to start, my husband got plump delicious oysters on a half and then ordered a burger and I had an order of wings. Overall, excellent time, service, experience, food. Love this place and so happy we went.

I use to really dig this place.Either its been bad luck or it's going downhill. I use to get the wings but I've started to notice how small they have gotten. One wing was half the size of my pinky. Then I notice a 'diclaimer' at the bottom of there menu on the size of their wings.Really? So I started to order some dinner dishes. Some weren't bad but when I ordered the chix alfredo, the alfrode sauce was so bland and soupy couldnt even eat it.The chicken had no flavoe either. The wife got some kinf of seafood which she did enjoyed. When the waitress came by to take our plates and I didnt want to take it home, she did ask if anything was wrong.I didnt bother,i wanted to leave and hit a wendy's so bad.The wait staff have always been pretty goodbut i think i'm done with Charlie's.

I'm not sure what was wrong with the other reviewers, but the food at Charlie's was incredible. We started off with wings in the tail gun sauce(mild) they were really good with the homemade blue cheese. Then for entrees, I had the Filet Marie (filet mignon with crab in a port wine sauce) and my husband had the black and blue tuna steak (tuna steak with crab and blue cheese). The crab on both of our dishes was huge chunks of crab meat equivalent to at least a crab cake amount and was so good. The filet was done perfectly and melted in your mouth. My husband had the fries which were beer battered and so yummy. It was the best meal we had during our trip in Ocean City, NJ.

Charlies has some of the best bar food that I've had. The fries are to die for and the sandwiches are yummy to. The place is a bit cramped and usually busy, but it's totally worth it!

This is home... In the summer it is packed with locals and Shoobies. Then in the winter the shuffleboard table comes out and you can actually find a seat without having to sandwich between the guy that's been fishing all day and the dude in the Wife Beater from South Philly looking for a table for nine. How do you find it??? Look for the neon in Somers Point. "The Good" - The wings are great and so are the tenders, two sauces and buckets filled with greasy goodness. - The Tail Swimmers are fantastic, shrimp that are sauteed in buffalo sauce that are so simple yet amazing. - If you do not have plans for making out on the first date, try Wes' favorite. A split Filet Mignon with Lettuce Tomato on Garlic Bread with melted provolone. - They have a party room if you want to rent it out. - Its a great place to go. - The random events that they have, along with the specials. Check out their Website. "The Meh" - The parking lot fills up early... as in 11:00 AM early. So either find a good spot on the street and walk. And seriously, if you park in front of someone's house, try waving and saying hello... we aren't used to people parking in front of the houses. "The Bad" - Cash Only, come on its almost time for the apocalypse and you can't trust some plastic once in a while. Thankfully they do have an Mac machine by the door so its a controlled hassle. - Additional 40 cents for take out orders.... At least move the damn take out counter away from in front of the men's room and closer to the front door so the drunk dude does not swing the door open like he's entering a saloon in the old west.

Went into Charlies to order Wings to Go, ordered them Mild and Crispy. It was a Friday night and the place was packed... should have passed and just went home. I received a bag which had wing sauce leaking all inside it. It was almost if someone had dumped a cup of it in there and just not given a damn. Drove home three blocks and opened the box to find the Wings were NOT crispy, kind of slimy in fact and drenched in sauce. Went back to Charlies two days later to ask about a refund or just an order of wings prepared correctly. Owner blew me off and told waitress to tell me - "Next time order them with the sauce on the side". I'm sorry but this is POOR customer service over an $8 order or wings. I'll be going somewhere else in the future... and so should you.

My whole family seems to drag me here every time we are in OC. The beer is cheap and my family drinks. I don't partake in the alcohol consumption so I can actually taste the food. After about 10 trips here I can say the food is nothing but ok. I was there this past weekend...once again....and had a grilled chicken sandwich. It was actually...whats the word I'm looking for?? Slimy. Not something I like in my chicken sandwiches. I'm more of a non-slimy grilled chicken kinda guy. I don't know. I just think this place should have a sign that says "Leave your taste-buds at the door." People just want to get drunk here and that is cool with me. This is the place to do it, but If your looking for a decent dinner go to a place that does not have slimy chicken.

Rating mostly as a bar, since I only tasted a friend's food while I was there. It's a good, standard, low key bar. They have big flat screen TVs, darts, and a shuffleboard table for entertainment. Drinks are cheap, although they are cash only. They're known for their wings, will have to order some next time I'm there.

After a long marathon training run I wanted 2 things: a good burger and a cold draft beer. I found both at Charlie's. Bar food done right. The atmosphere is sports/ dive bar with a great waitstaff. We will be back.

Love this place. Not a summer goes by we don't stop in here, fill up my shoe box (thus, the nickname shoobie) with food and tottle off to the beach. OK. Not really. We stopped in this past Mon. noon on way home from Avalon. Moderately full for a Mon., nice bartender and waitress. I got house salad with a crabcake which can be scary, but was great! Crabcake very crabby and fresh, good greens, good dressings, good cold beer (just 1, I was driving) Friend got BLT which was perfectly made. You ask how do you screw up a BLT? Let's just say it's hard getting a good one out. Could it be the crisp bacon and Jersey Tomato? Charlies has always been a notch above the rest.

Inexpensive beer, good basic wings (crispy & spicy), and the most amazing chicken tenders. Tenders were hunks of white meat in a nice batter and tasty honey mustard and unique bbq sauce. They have a large off-street parking area. Located just outside of Ocean City. Cash only.

  • Pat M.

Best dive bar around. Make sure you go wing night in the offseason. It's one of the only bars that doesn't hike up their prices for the shoebies.

As good as it gets when it comes to food, service and a shore sports bar. Family owned and operated, the crab cakes are a must, but note they aren't lump, they're claws so the meat is perfectly distributed in the fantastically cooked cake. Add that they always have sports on to a very nice selection of beers and a staff that's second to none and it's a must stop at the Jersey shore.

This place is a gem. The seafood was fresh and delicious. Classic irish pub restaurant with very high standards. South jersey seaside town food at its best. Very affordable and friendly atmostphere. Just perfect. Tjey are also known for their buffalo wings.

  • Jeremy R.

Too bad I don't live Charlie's because they have some of the best hit wings I've ever had. The hot sauce is spicy, tangy and full of flavor. Mild wings had just the right level of spice. They were fried but not too crispy or too breaded. They come in weird quantities though: three sizes from 13 to 30 bucks. Very recommended for those here in OC for vacation, just a hop over the 9th street bridge.

Charlie is a great place for suds and wings. A hangout for a lot of locals. I love the shuffleboard game in the back I don't see them in many places anymore. I would recommend this place for anyone that enjoys good wings drinking beer and watching a a few games on there many tv's.

I've been driving by this place in Somers Point New Jersey for years but never really thought about it. Tonight, since we are down the shore for a few days vacation and the whole place is shut down and there's no other place open, we stopped in for dinner. What a surprise! Although the parking lot was packed and it was packed inside too, we were seated right away. The waitress took our drink order within a minute or two and brought our beverages a couple of miniutes later. The waitress also brought a hot Italian roll, which was crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Yum! I had prime rib - perfectly cooked medium-rare, and my date had jumbo crab cake, both entrees with fresh broccoli and baked potato. The broccoli was not that grey, limp kind you usually get, but it was pefectly cooked, and there was a lot of it. The entrees were very good. We got our check soon after we finished. I'm impressed! Fast, courteous, friendly service, good quality meal, reasonable prices make this a place to come back to.

I was highly dissatisfied. The food was good but the rest was terrible. We were sat in the corner by the shuffleboard table and our waitress basically never came by unless she was actually bringing us something so if we needed anything she was nowhere to be found. I ordered the veggie sub which was tasty but I thought it needed a little something so I asked for a side of caesar dressing (which i had to ask the busboy for since the waitress never checked on us). That made it better but i discovered there was no broccoli which was supposed to be one of the main ingredients! By the time the waitress came over to us again I was almost finished so I didn't even bother complaining! My husband asked for an order of wings to-go. We got the check and not only did they charge extra for my side of caesar dressing but they also charged a fee for the to-go order! Are you kidding me?! What a joke. Not to mention the are cash only! The place was packed so I guess they can get away with it... But I don't intend to go back.

Cool down to earth place. I don't get here often but the food is good for a bar. Ordered the Tail Tenders mild. Very good, not too hot. Bar looked like it had locals that live there, couldn't get a seat but preferred a table anyway. Server was very nice and attentive. Thank you!

  • Ryan B.

Totally killer food for a reasonable price make sure to bring cash as they dont take credit cards. It is also kid friendly so you are covered there as well. This is the kind of place you would expect to see on diners, drive ins, and dives...just great food and atomsphere! One point of mention the boneless buffalo wings were only ok. but wow the crab cakes and hamburgers were awesome. And no one seems to know how to cook burgers these days... They grind the meat fresh daily and they really are cooked to order. Have fun

Lots of hype and nostalgia surround the ratings. Definitely great, fun, bar atmosphere... pretty raucous and loud, and we felt very comfortable with our noisy kids (not often that they are not the loudest in a restaurant). Service was a little harried, but they did keep it moving. We got the wings, with the mild sauce and the hot one on the side (good recommendation by the waitress). While the wings are good to start, the sauce didn't wow me. It was too oily... and didn't have the proper consistency that I would expect in good wing sauce. The hot sauce isn't too bad - nothing nuclear or so. From a flavor balance perspective, recommend going with the mild/medium one. The sandwiches were full-sized, and plentiful... middle-of-the-road in terms of taste. Parking may be a little challenging, in their small parking lot. Just might have to circle a little or find street parking.

Charlie's bar has the best hot wings on the planet. I usually stop in a half dozen times a year for wings and a beer. The rest of the food is good to pretty good, but I mostly stop in for the wings. Everyone Ive ever taken there fell in love with the wings. They have takeout, and on super bowl Sunday, the line for the takeout wings is usually out the door.

This is our go to place every Friday night on our way to Ocean City! It is home for us with a great friendly staff and good food. The bar is great and the prices of the drinks and the food are very reasonable! Great bar food (wings, burgers, sandwiches, etc) and very good fancy food too! There is nothing on the menu we haven't had and nothing that hasn't been very good! A good comfortable place for good food, good drinks at great prices!

Bottom line...Best Buffalo Tail Tenders around. Wings are too breaded. Stick with the BBT with Top Gun sauce on the side and blue cheese.

One of Somers Points oldest and well known tavern & restaurant. Co-owner, Gregory Gregory along with his brother have transformed this tavern into a well respected restaurant eatery. I really like how they prepare their hot wings.....better than the other well known tavern down the block. The wings have a very nice crispy floured finish.

Fantastic place, mainly with a sports bar/casual ambience. Two of us sat at the bar and were thrilled with our first bartender, who poured solid drinks everytime. Drink prices were fair. $5 for a pint of Captain and Coke/Sprite. Second shift had a less generous pour, but still respectable. It is the typical service rules for the area - bartender serves drinks, and you stand your menu up to order food through a different server. Both people were attentive and kind. Also, CASH ONLY! No cards. The food was simply amazing. Apps - I love the wing combo because we got regular wings and boneless chicken tenders, satisfying both of our desires. The mild sauce has a bite, but the creamy blue cheese balances it nicely. Freshly baked bread was amazing. Entrees - Chicken Francaise ($16.99) was tasty, but needed more sauce for the pasta it was served over. (I'd request al dente pasta next time, my own preference.) Filet mignon was huge (10-12 ounce for $21.99), and just slightly overcooked. (Ordered rare, came out medium rare) Side dishes were good, but everything could have used a little more seasoning - nothing some salt and pepper cannot take care of. All in all, we plan on returning in the future. Definitely worth every penny and suited our personal eating preferences.

I ate at Charlie's a few years ago and after my visit last month, I know why I really didn't make much of an effort to come back. Both times the food was definitely just average. Supposedly the big appeal of Charlie's is their wings. I'm not sure why I didn't learn my lesson the first time (maybe I forgot about my first visit), but my wing order on my second visit was worst than my first. When I came here with my family a few years ago and ordered wings, my husband and I finished them and looked at each other sort of confused as to why this place was popular for their wings. There wasn't anything unique or particularly tasty about the wing sauce and the wings themselves were basically average. On my second visit, all of my memories came flooding back (and then some). My daughter ordered the garlic parm wings and for an 8 year old she is an avid wing fan. She took one bite and couldn't touch the rest. I thought she was being dramatic and tried them myself and agreed with her. The wings had some sort of "gravy-ish" sauce on them with sliced garlic cloves. They were thick and heavy but with no flavor, very unusual and not in a good way. Our waitress noticed she didn't touch them and apologized profusely as well as took them off our check. I ordered the boneless buffalo wings and cheese fries. The wings were inedible. I maybe ate half of one before giving up. The sauce was tasty but the wings were so dry I could not get a bite down without taking a drink of water. The cheese fries were really good, but unfortunately my stomach and spirit were not up for a dinner of just cheese fries. My other fellow diners seemed to enjoy their food of grilled chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, and pasta dishes. When my waitress saw that I only had a few bites of my boneless buffalo wings she felt horrible and offered to take it off the check like she did for my daughters garlic parm wings. I insisted that she keep it on. After all, I should have learned my lesson a few years ago, right? Also, it was quizzo night which I was really excited about! Unfortunately, where we were seated (which was by the back bar) we could not hear one single question and didn't get to play. I'm guessing you have to sit by the front bar in order to hear any of the questions, FYI!

I heard how good the wings were and came in around 4:45pm on a Sunday to a completely packed bar - one open seat, which I grabbed. It's your basic bar with friendly bartenders and I was definitely the odd one out in that everyone seemed to know everyone. Very well. But people were still friendly and welcoming. On to the food, which is ordered and paid separately from any drinks. I ordered the wings (13 of them) mild. I asked how hot the Top Gun hot sauce was, and she said very, very hot but the mild still had some kick. So I went with mild, with a side of the Top Gun, and the wings came out almost instantly, piping hot. The wings were meaty, but not overly so, which is fine. The mild did not have any heat to me, but I am a bit of a spicy food lover. I will say...thank god I didn't get them covered in Top Gun. It wasn't all that hot...but it didn't taste very good. Seems they tried to make the hottest sauce possible without regards to any taste. No thanks. Also had blue cheese which was good. Drinks wise - I stuck to beer, where there was a modest but fine stock at good prices. Mixed beverages appears well poured, but again, everyone around me were regulars so I am not sure how strongly mine would have been poured. I would return, but wouldn't go out of my way. It's fine. 3.5 stars, rounded to 4.

Heres a pic of the stupid soup that is the texture of paste! Wings are inconsistent and apparently when you get take out they do not deal with coin change! So if your order is $21.25, you will Not be getting the .75 cents & YOU, will Not be getting a tip. It's ashame when a mediocre place like this has such a following of lemmings with no idea of quality.

Excellent bar food, the wings are outstanding probably the best I have had. Really good crispy potato skins too. The seafood dishes are all very fresh and huge portions, it can get pretty packed but it's a great place to watch a game.

Charlie's is a shore institution for me and my family, for a few key reasons. Sure, sometimes getting to the bathroom is a tight squeeze, and shelling out cash can feel like a pain. But the friendly staff always greets me with a joke and a smile when I come in with 4-7 family members. And one bite into those tender, saucy wings.... I'm in heaven. So, the wings.... It's a given. They're what you COME to Charlie's for, and you shouldn't leave until you've enjoyed at least 6 to yourself. But better make it an even 13, just to be safe. Also highlights on the menu: -for sheer indulgence in the gooey-est pile of cheese sauce and bacon, get the potato skins. They're like boats of starch containing the tastiest combination of whiz and salty bacon pieces. -the hot veggie sub may SOUND light and/or health: don't be fooled! sauteed veggies, provolone make for a flavorful and filling sammy that tastes just as hearty as any meat. -The Patty Melt and Reubens... you just can't beat em. -And, of course, Wes' Favorite: freshly sliced filet mignon, grilled and topped with provolone, lettuce, and tomato on a garlic kaiser roll. It's the ultimate complement to the wings. But then again, if you're not sure what to get.... just stock up on blue cheese and celery and order a 35 piece order of wings. Get them in a bucket to take home. They're just as tasty heated and tossed back in the sauce at home. Don't forget the wet naps, though.

Nice local bar and restaurant in Somers Point. Big menu with all kinds of bar food and restaurant entrees. Great drink menu. The wings at Charlie's are extraordinary. I would rate them above my #1 pick Sportsman Park in St. Louis. So in my opinion this is the numero uno place for wings. Parking can be a little difficult during big games. Charlie's is a great place to watch your favorite sports event. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. CASH ONLY. ATM BY THE FRONT ENTRANCE Good price/value relationship.

Despite all the positive hype this local bar didn't deliver. Stick to the wings but skip the crab cakes, fish, and clams all of which were over cooked. On the positive side you can watch a game, drink a beer, and eat some greasy bar food.

This place came highly recommended by friends so my husband and I stopped by for dinner and a drink. We split the "chicken little" portion of mild wings (Hubby got a side of the hot "top gun" sauce). The wings were amazing and had the perfect crispy skin. They were really meaty pieces too. The beer selection is really good, I got the flying fish farmhouse ale and hub got dogfish head 60 minute IPA. Staying in dry OC it was really nice to have a drink with dinner too. Service was super friendly and really helpful. Wings got there quickly. It gets crowded so get there early but there is more seating than you think. This will probably be a regular spot on our trips to the shore.

I LOVE charlies!! This place is by far my favorite bar food! The top gun sauce is amazing! If you don't like spicy try the wes favorite. They also have a pretty decent beer selection compared to the other bars in the area.

Just gonna get straight to the point. I could eat Charlie's wings for every meal. These are hands down THE GREATEST WINGS ON EARTH! Nothing compares. I have had many other great chicken wings at various restaurants, but nothing that even comes close to these. I can't even describe them because I feel like I would be doing them a disservice. However, their She-Crab soup is nothing to frown upon either. I usually get the soup and split the 35 wings with someone else. A must stop on your way in or out of Ocean City. I rented in Ocean City for a month and had to go back home to Woodbury Heights area (about an hour away) for football practice. After practice ended at around 7:30 at night. We would race down the highway to get here before it got too crowded. And man was it worth it. If you are a self proclaimed wing connoisseur like me, you will not be disappointed. I even had the pleasure of tasting the other food a few times too. And these too are up to par with the wings. This is one of those places where I could never not get the wings because I feel like I would be missing out. Usually I can eat about 10 wings at most other places. However, at Charlie's, if the time is right, I think I could eat about 25-30 just by myself. I would accept the obesity with pride knowing I had enjoyed the finest food on the face of this Earth. Please, if you can, stop by. Chances are I will be there. Eating my wings.

Cash only?? What century are they in? Come on by, eat a big meal and have good drinks with friends and then freak out after your meal and have to figure out how to pay for this. Sound like fun? It really wasn't. Why accommodate the paying customer who just finished a big meal with friends? I won't go back. Oh, and the waitress was grouchy too. Sorry Charlie

My favorite wings ever! I live out in Richland and drive to Charlies frequently for their French dip which is absolutely amazing, and wings. The French fries are also awesome, so crunchy and addicting! Their drinks are also very tasty! Would've given them 5 stars but parking there is a nightmare!!! Too small and always crowded. Driving around for parking even on a Tuesday night is no fun at all. I also would rather be waited on at a table by one of the servers. The bartenders aren't friendly at all :(

Yummy cheeseburger, cold beer and tasty wings. The atmosphere and service is classic dive bar. Overall not much to say besides this place is pretty damn good and I would come back for sure.

Great buffalo wings, go with southwest BBQ, just a little zing but an original flavor. We had a fried calamari special with sweet and spicy chili sauce. Excellent dish. I had seafood combo for dinner. On combo dishes it's so hard to get everything right, but they did! Flounder, shrimp, scallops, crab meat, all perfect. Sautéed sugar snap pees with roasted peppers was tremendous. Our server was terrific. Sue was great, funny, and a hard worker. Her personality made us want to come back, not even to mention the great food and ambiance, excellent service. We had a group of six and everyone was happy, when does that happen? The bill was $190.00, but it was a bargain. I love OCNJ and will be a seasonal visitor.

Charlie's bar known for their wings and let me tell you they are amazing and even better reheated in the oven the next day! We always get their mild flavor but have tried the hotter one. The hotter one has jalapenos all over it so the wings are not crisp. And their homemade blue cheese is to die for. So let me state that we used to eat at the restaurant but after a horrible experience and I mean horrible...we order take out just b/c we want the wings and blue cheese. Stars off for the following: - Parking lot is cramped and spots are tight...that's if you can even find one (usually two people go and whoever is driving waits in car) - Cash only - Where you are instructed to pick up food is underneath a sign in a heavy trafficked area located next to the bathrooms (This is annoying when you are standing there waiting and people need to get by or need to use the facilities) Really...can't food pick up be by the hostess or the bar area??? - Charge for to go containers Believe me if there is another restaurant that sells delicious wings in large quantities (rooster jack is 60 pieces) because when we're vacationing we have at least 6 people sometimes more, we would probably go there but for right now all we have is Charlies. We recently went out to the Anchorage Tavern for a few drinks and saw people eating there and will definitely try them next! Food looked delicious and it was packed! and yes they take credit cards.

My family is local and has frequented this restaurant for sone time now however the wings aren't what they used to be and that "cash only" nonsense has to go! I will not be ordering the "world famous wings" anymore unless someone says they have changed.

Fresh squeezed OJ in your screwdriver and the best buffalo tenders in the area. What else can I say!

Found a gem, friends suggested this place and we were not disappointed! We went here with a party of 13 which included children. Very minimal wait maybe 10mins. Nice size menu something for everyone. Seeing the awards for their wings I knew I had to try them and did they live up to their billing some of the best wings I've had! Mild sauce had nice buttery flavor just right and the crispness and breading was perfect. The BBQ sauce wings were also just as good! The main course I had steamed clams over capellini pasta with garlic oreganato sauce. I was blown away by the portion size for the price my bowl was loaded definite surprise. The clams were fresh and done just right and with fresh sliced garlic in the sauce it was just how I would make it myself because I love a lot if garlic. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal including the kids. We will definitely make this a tradition now when we are down the shore.

Ordered the grilled tuna sandwich, second time in a row. Night and day difference. Wasn't prepared as requested, and the fries were saturated in oil from being cooked at the wrong temperature. They did correct the sandwich, but the waitress gave attitude. I hate that because I genuinely want to like the place.

For Somers Point it is good. The food is okay. Basic Bar food. Everything is fried. I laughed because I ordered surf and turf just to see and the lobster was the size of my thumb. Oh well at least I am still skinny.. :)

Charlie's is a wonderful place to stop for a beer and some food. The buffalo boneless tender (BBTs) are absolutely amazing! You must give them a try if you're a fan of buffalo wings. Their burgers are also very good. The pricing is reasonable for a bar/pub style menu.

The wings are the best around but that is the only thing worth getting there. Cash only is also very annoying. I would recommend this place to gets drinks and have some wings

If your looking for a friendly local tightly packed deep fried popular sports pub you found it. We had the wings (mild and southwest) both were great. Well cooked wings ... not fatty. Crab cakes were good too. Service was terrific. Tip: Looks like it can easily get packed. Come during off peak times if you want a table. Parking is tight also. If you have long vehicle consider parking on the street cause backing out might be impossible.

I travel for work and a few months ago during Football season this was my go to Sunday spot. Plenty of tv's, just go 15 min before game time to grab a spot and ask for your teams game. The food is amazing! Chicken fingers fresh, hot and not greasy at all. The chicken wings were pretty good too. (I'm from buffalo and definitely picky when it comes to wings) Great spot for drinks and food!

If there were more places like this around America people might be happier....good food makes for good people and vise versa!

Great buffalo wings and yummy beer towers. Sucks that it's cash only, but be prepared because this place can get packed, especially on the weekends! Charlie's has a cute dive- feel, and though the wait to be seated can be long, it is well worth the wait. Servers are nice and keep up with their tables very well too!

The servers were excellent both times we had lunch at Charlie's this weekend. They were very friendly and checked in with us frequently but weren't overbearing. It is a relaxed, casual atmosphere in a bar setting but still is kid friendly. We had the buffalo tenders and wings which were delicious. I'd also recommend the Jamaican jerk chicken tenders and the burger with pork roll on top. The prices are reasonable, service is excellent, food hits the spot, drinks are cold. We'll definitely be back

This is a local bar that has been around forever. This definitely isn't the only bar across from the dry town of Ocean City, NJ, but it has cheap drinks, good people, and great food. the servers here are great and I can't recall a time where I felt like I wasn't being cared for. They are best known for their wings which can come in one of 4 sauces or naked. The wings are large, fried without a batter or breading, and always come out piping hot. Another favorite of mine is the wes's favorite which consists of a thin piece a filet minion sandwiched between 2 pieces of garlic bread. As good as the bar food is, this place actually serves some nice upscale food as well. The crab cake dinner is delicious and chock full of actual crab unlike many places that replace it with filler. The pasta dishes are also well prepared. You can add just about anything to the dishes, but there will be a charge for it. This place even charges for soda refills! that's really the only bad thing I can say though. I have been going here for a while and I don't see that ending anytime soon. The atmosphere is like a family restaurant mixed with a bar. Most nights it's a mix of all ages until it gets to the later hours. There't not too much of a young crowd on weekend nights since there's no DJ or dance music. Some weekend nights they have a band play (around 10 or 11 pm) which is usually pretty good entertainment but also makes the restaurant very loud. Overall, during lunch and dinner hours, it is appropriate for all ages and groups while the later hours should be reserved for adults. If you want an affordable night out to dinner and drinks, this is a great place to go.

Best bar food around... I deem Charlie's king of Somers point restaurants. The tenders are amazing, seafood, all bar foods are to die for and very reasonably priced!!! I grew up in this area so I always knew Charlie's was top notch but recently I accepted a friends challenge between diorios tenders and Charlie's. Please, no compition.! Charlie's tenders are 3xs bigger, all white meat, every tender in the bucket is similar size, the tail gun sauce is perfect. And blue cheese and Celery is better as well. Plus, they were the first ones to do tenders in this area anyway. Also, get a Wes's favorite, you won't be disappointed.

New Update: Ordered a cheesesteak with fried onions and there were barely any fried onions. Not much cheese. In any case, come try for yourself and see what I'm talking about... Update: Recently came here for some wings and as I was looking at the receipt, I noticed an extra charge of 80 cents. I was told it was because they charge for the To-Go containers. THAT'S ABSURD. Also, be aware that despite the fact that this establishment has been there for as long as it has, they still do not accept credit cards so you're forced to use their atm, which charges another surcharge. Just know, this place will nickel and dime you to death for stupid things that should be included. Im surprised they didn't charge me extra for the sauce on my buffalo wings. Absolutely absurd. My family ordered food from here and I decided to get a patty melt and cheese sauce for my fries. They charged me $1 for the cheese sauce (for my fries) but gave me a MEASLY amount of fries. If I would have known that they weren't going to give me anything to use my cheese sauce on, I wouldn't have spent the extra money. Thus, needless to say, I won't be making that mistake again.

Exceptional restaurant. Bar was on point but also a lot cheaper than most places. Food was excellent, with a wide variety of choices, fit for even the most of picky eaters. Service was lightning fast but also added a positive atmosphere to the table. Highly recommended if stuck between a rock and a hard place.Great place, come here to eat one night

Still have great wings. My last visit here was in 1993. Went yesterday on the way home from the beach and the wings are still awesome! I also ate the seared shrimp and veggie wrap which was also very good, even the wrap was soft and fresh, not the case in other restaurants. But I really loved the wings.

First time writing a review. This place was referred to me and I'll go back every time in in OCNJ. Went in with a party of 3 sat down right away on a packed Friday night at 7pm. Service was spot on as the Ice tea was not as tasteful as my girlfriend liked. Replaced at no charge. I ordered the Caesar salad and 32 wings with Southwest BBQ. Decent size and tasting salad. Wings came out nice an hot smothered in sauce just like I likem. I liked the sauce so much I ordered a pint to go. I'll be cooking some pulled pork with it next weekend. All in all great place for some bar food. Table next to us has the steak and that looked great. 4 stars due to how packed it was and how seating is very close together.

Never have I ever felt so unwelcome in a bar. Bartender ladies making eye contact, ignoring me, before finally reluctantly taking my order. Another male bartender took my next order; a single simple shot of whiskey, and slammed the drink in front of me saying "$5." I gave him a five and no tip as he never came back .

When we arrived we were surprised that there wasn't a wait! Usually you can almost guarantee an hour wait or longer! It was a nice day so I figured people were still on the beach. So when we went in there were a ton of open tables. However, the hostess sat us at a table literally where we felt we were part of the next tables conversations. So I politely went to the hostess stand and asked if we could be moved. She said nothing and walked abruptly to our previous table grabbed our menus and walked to the new table. She again said nothing. My husband was ready to leave but I said let's stay and if the waiter or waitress stinks we ll leave. Thankfully she was very nice! Service was great! The wings were not as great as they have been. Flavor was good but the meat was non existent. I also got French onion soup that tasted ok. I would hope the attitude of the hostess gets addressed as they are the first face you see, so who knows if anything will come of this.

I had diarrhea twice before leaving the restaurant. I either received food poinsoning from something I ate - she crab soup or turkey special sandwich OR they put something in my food to make me sick because I sent my sandwich back to be toasted. I was sick all night. Could barely sit up. It is the next day and I feel like I was hit by a truck. The totally average, fattening food at Charlies bar is NOT worth risking food poisoning for.

Decent food but they were kinda rude about the cash only thing when I asked to run a tab. I understand that you dont want to pay proper taxes but its stupid to have to pay a seperate bill with the bartender and the waitress when we are sitting at the bar. Oh and they have to be paid right away no tabs can be run! Do you really think im going to run out on a $40 tab?

Awesome all around. Cash only and usually have to wait for a table before 9. Great wings, sweet servers, and a good shore vibe during the summer. Want a beer and have some wings or grab a burger? Come here!

I grew up in Somers Point, born in the hospital 2 blocks away from this establishment Shore Memorial, in the great year of 1983 right before my two favorite presidents Reagan and Bush took office for a 2nd term, lived here for 28 years of my life. I grew up loving Charlie's 'world famous' wings. I moved a good distance away about 5 years ago (from date of review) but still have family here, and every time I come back to my old stomping grounds to visit them (about 3-4 times a year), I always try to get some wings, but as of late, they do not taste like how I remember them to be, the chicken wings itself haven't changed, but the sauce most certainly has, and NOT for the better. I have not ordered anything else off the menu recently, because it wasn't great food growing up anyway, I can't imagine it has gotten any better, especially with the degradation of what they are known for, wings. This makes me very sad, I gave the 1 extra star rating for all the good memories I've had here. In the future when I come visit family, Charlie's wings will be a story of the past.

I had the Kobe burger at Charlie's tonight. The temp was perfect- I ordered medium and it came out a beautiful vibrant pink in the center, not the grayish pink I usually see when ordering that temp. The burger was topped with blue cheese, red wine reduction and crispy fried onions. I agree with this choice of toppings 100%. When you have meat of that quality, you treat it more like a steak than a burger. All of that was served on a brioche bun (yum) with some perfectly crisp battered fries (double yum). If you see this on the specials page, don't hesitate to get it. The service was great as always, and they still only accept cash.

Absolutely hands down the best Wings in the state of NJ. She Crab soup is a must try. Always great food at Charlie's. Great atmosphere also. Sports Bar with awesome dinners. Great alternative to the overrated Crab Trap a few blocks away.

I've grown up in Ocean City, NJ and a few years ago moved to PA. Everytime I come home to visit, the first place I go for dinner is Charlie's. Quite honestly, I've only ordered a couple things on the menu because I pretty much get their BBTs every time. They are SO good it's ridiculous. Their beer selection is pretty good as well so you really can't go wrong!

Tell me who doesn't take debit or credit cards ?!?? the ATM has sign on it says its owned by "Yo Money LLC" yeah I'll trust that macine with a $2 fee. I think this place is way over rated. jammed our group of 15 people along side the shuffle board table and back door. we were all in each others way.

When we are in Ocean City, we make it a point to hit Charlie's at least once. With so many overrated restaurants and eateries in the area, Charlie's is always great. The chili is very good, and the crab cakes are worth the trip. Dress casual and bring cash.

My mom lives in Ocean City so whenever we visit this is one of my favorite places to go. The wings are great and the service is okay- it mainly depends on the server. I love to go during football season to get out of the house and watch a game, but you need to show up early to get a seat at the bar or a table. Also, we warned of a few things: 1- The entire place is cash only, although there is an ATM that charges $2 to withdraw. 2- Avoid the crowded summers. The tourists aren't terrible but it gets incredibly crowded. If you need to go in the summer, get wings and catch a Phillies game during the week. 3- If you order at the bar, don't ask the bartenders. Place your menu standing up on the bar and someone will come around for your order.

Girlfriend and I tried Charlie's for Dinner saturday night. After all, we have heard so many people rave about Charlie's we had to eat there and see what all the hype was about. We were both very disappointed. Service was good, and we got our table in 15 min. It's the food I'm really judging, though. GF got some type of fried chicken tenders, which she said were dry- not moist. She got onion rings, which were good, but probably just a good brand of frozen ones. I had a crabcake platter with fries and slaw. I loved the slaw, but the fries were the type that are breaded with something- I prefer natural potato fries- not into the breading. The crabcake was one of the worst I ever had. I'm used to jumbo lump, this was a bland, fried crabcake- probably mass-produced somewhere. Maybe a step up from Mrs. Paul's. I only ate about half. All in all, a big disappointment. Perhaps this is a place where you just stick with the basic bar food- burgers and wings.
